Pros of studying health science

The pros of health science degrees are many. For instance, job satisfaction because one can help people by educating them on health and science. It is moreover flexible since most higher education institutes provide flexibilityin the career path, giving students more possibilities to choose. There are many job options; health science study programmes will provide multiple career choices in the industry.

Since there are always vacant places in sectors connected to health, job growth is also something to consider when it comes to choosing health science.

Cons of studying health science

Cons of studying health sciences include the fact that one should always be professionally active and continue their studies by continuing to enrich their CV with certifications. Besides, working in other industries might be difficult since employers might be sceptical, no matter one’s skills and experience.

But what exactly are the available careers in health science? Well, of course, at the first point, people tend to think of doctors and nurses. But health science goes far beyond the latter two.

Laboratory jobs

Doctors usually develop treatment plans on patients’ cells; therefore, laboratory jobs are essential in healthcare. Histological technician, medical technologist or cytotechnologist are just three examples of laboratory-based jobs. For instance, a cytotechnologist prepares and examines the cells to treat the disease. A histological technician prepares those cells for someone else to be analysed, and it is done through staining, dehydration, or incineration. A medical technologist usually supervises laboratory workers.

There are also assistant jobs available – surgeons, doctors, and even nurses need assistance.This is why assistant jobs are another option for people with a degree in healthcare. Health educators, alcohol and drug counsellors, health information technicians and physician assistants – to name a few – are highly prestigious assistant jobs. Health educators usually give patients good advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle through diet and lifestyle choices. While alcohol and drug counsellors give mental and physical step-by-step help to people suffering from addictions. Health information technicians ensure that the patient data is safe and accessible to the staff. And finally, physician assistants help doctors and surgeons, and they might even treat their patients.

Administration jobs

For instance, if one does not want to communicate directly to the patients, they could consider working in administration. Healthcare administration includes administration itself, where one can manage the facility they are working for. Moreover, one could also work as an accountant in healthcare – to do that; one needs to conceal accounting exams to their degree in healthcare. Besides, it is possible to work in marketing or informatics

The need for healthcare all over the world

Hospitals and healthcare facilities are essential for people since mental and physical health are one of the most precious qualities of a human being. Therefore, hospitals and other healthcare facilities receive a lot of funding and financial support. Healthcare is not only about being doctors, surgeons, or nurses. There are many less stressful choices, and one does not have to communicate directly to the patients if they do not want to. In any case, healthcare is a good choice for one’s studies especially for the range of specialisations and different job opportunities it offers.
