The climate adaption

By Asomi College of Sciences
The European Commission aims to adapt the climate action in a proper way to ensure the correct delivery of the European Green Deal. The European Climate Adaption Strategy aims to the final goal of the European Union on terms of climate change: to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. Therefore, the adaptation strategies focus on the development of environmentally-friendly policies in the European Union.

In order to introduce the new adaptation strategies and make the European Green Deal successful, the strategy has to be more smart, fast, systemic. Additionally, these new adaptation strategies should be international, or at least the European Union should be engaged in environmental issues on a global scale.

Smart strategies

First of all, successful strategies for fighting (or even coping with) climate change have to be smarter. Smarter to inform constitutions, unions, businesses, and citizens by using data and risk assessment tools to call about an action. The smart approach is essential, as the further the barriers to knowledge are pushed, the more people start tackling the problem. Furthermore, informing people on adaptation strategies is essential because it gathers more data on climate-related risks and losses.

Fast strategies

Secondly, the adaptation strategies for this kind of urgent change have to be faster. Since climate change is already being felt, it is important to take action as soon as possible. The adaptation has to be quicker and more comprehensive. The strategy has to roll out and develop adaptation solutions to increase climate protection and reduce climate-related risks.

Systemic strategies

Thirdly, for the climate change impacts all sectors of society and the economy, the adaptations must be systemic. Therefore, European Commission will continue to concentrate on climate resilience in all relevant policy fields. The European Union will implement adaptation strategies at all levels of governance on three main groups:

  • The integration of the adaptation on macro-fiscal policy
  • Solutions for adaptation based on nature
  • Local adaptation actions
